Well, talk about "intention, not perfection ", who knew that wine is not vegan! 👎
In fact, in some cases, it's not even vegetarian! 😢 After years of being vegan, and recently deciding to be a strict vegan, this was...
A Huge Revelation!
I would venture to guess that most people believe that wine is three main ingredients: grapes and sugar, which are obviously plant materials, and yeast, which is not a plant, but is also not an animal. So, it would seem, drinking wine is an acceptable vegan experience.
But hold on! My friend informed me, at a winery, whilst drinking a glass of Syrah, that wine is not vegan. He's a real jokester, so I thought he was pulling my leg. But when we did a quick Google search...BAM! My wine drinking life was changed forever.
To see for yourself, check out this site from PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals).
So I got on a local vegan Facebook page and decided to do a poll. How many people know this? Am I one of the few and the ashamed who was still in the dark? After a half-day of polling, it seems I'm not the only one. And there's a range of attitudes toward this information. I just wanted to "put it out there" so you could have the info and make your own informed decision.
As we know, the journey of becoming vegan is fraught with obstacles and hidden setbacks. The good news is that there's lots of vegan wine choices, and I've heard that the quality of said wine is improving. Check out this other site from PETA to start your vegan wine exploration.
Just don't forget: it's all about "intention, not perfection".
